The new side unit, clad in Corten steel, is accessed via the undercroft side passage. It has the main living area at the ground floor level and a private terrace at the rear; the glazed ceiling along the boundary helps keep its massing consistent with the old annex. The two new basement flats are provided with their own stepped sunken gardens in the extended lightwells. The existing upper floor flat is split into two units, one of them with a mezzanine in the former attic space. The raised central part of the roof above the mezzanine has been designed not to be seen from the public realm.
