Area: 900 sq. m. Client: Emerald ECS UK Sector: Residential
Location: Virginia Water, Surrey, UK Planning your new home? Sustainable new development – private country house in Surrey, UK. This detached house on one acre of land in one of the most prestigious pockets of London’s Green Belt has been developed with an ambition to achieve the lowest levels of energy consumption along with the highest comfort and quality of space. The two-storey house does not appear massive, as the large basement with a swimming pool, spa and lounge areas, staff apartment and the main plant room is hidden below the beautifully landscaped garden. The internal space flows smoothly around the central stair with a vacuum lift in the centre. The sustainable engineering solutions include zonal heat recovery units, geothermal heat pumps, photovoltaic panels, energy storing, rainwater and greywater harvesting. The walls are Insulating Concrete Formwork (ICF). All U-values meet or exceed the Passive House requirements. Our client acquired the land with planning permission which determined the “historic” look of the building. We embraced the challenge, working closely with the manufacturers to create an uncompromised traditional appearance with modern materials. One example is the roof – a sophisticated combination of real and photovoltaic slates looking identical.
