DESCRIPTION

A contemporary part-2, part-3 storey building on the grounds of the former Broxbournebury Manor estate, now a golf club. The development will comprise 38 residential units (32 flats and 6 terraced houses) within the Grade II listed walls of the former walled garden and a modern extension to the gym and spa complex within the Grade II listed Mansion.
The houses’ volumes are deliberately simple. Their visual sub-division maintains the human scale of a low-rise residential environment. The quality of architecture is achieved by careful proportioning and sophisticated detailing rather than by the introduction of spectacular volumes.
The architectural language of the proposals is contemporary. Rather than mimicking the historic detailing with a pastiche imitation, the new development matches the adjacent historic buildings in scale, quality and materials, while remaining respectful and subdued.
Natural greenery (landscaped roofs, hedges and flowers on the balconies, external gardens) are an integral part of the architecture.
